DESCRIPTION:Quiet Hour\, Saturday 19 July from 9am.\n  \nWe will open our gates an hour early at 9am for a Quiet Hour for our second Working Vehicles Day so that you can see the big\, unusual and surprisingly familiar up close! \nOur Aircraft Factory the home of our Wellington Bomber\, the Flight Shed where you have a go at deciphering Morse Code\,  step inside the Vickers Wellington walkthrough as well as being able to get up close and sit in the pilot’s seats of the Hawker Hunter and Harrier aircraft.* \nVisitors who are neurodivergent can enjoy these areas of the Museum\, free from the hustle and bustle of our normal opening hours. \n​​​Our Café will be open for our ‘Brooklands Breakfast offer’. \nThe Museum will then be open as normal from 10am – 5pm when all our exhibit areas will be open.  *some activities have step access only

Join this session to explore drawing and designing with light! \nThis session will explore the idea of ‘home’. As a family you’ll get to design\, build and draw using projections\, fabrics and UV lights. Play with light and dark\, reflections\, shadows\, and colours. Create and experiment using a mixture of different art materials to make colourful projections in the space. \nIf you need a break\, there will be a breakout space available through the day\, with one within the event space and the other nearby. This space will have: a blackout tent\, cushions\, sensory toys\, and ear defenders. \nAll activities are optional\, and you can visit at any point during the event timings\, between 11am – 4pm. However\, please book your tickets to give us an idea if you’re likely to visit us earlier 11am-1:30pm\, or later in the day 1:30-4pm. \nThis session is inspired by Rachel Sale Adobe’s Illustration resident at South Kensington V&A\, and the Museum’s collection. These sessions are created and led by Groundswell Arts. \nThis is an activity for families where either a child or the parent/ carer/ guardian has a neurodiversity or sensory processing disorder. This is a free\, drop-in event for families to enjoy all together; no child can be left unattended. DESCRIPTION:This event welcomes people with disabilities\, neurodivergent individuals and anyone with sensory needs seeking a calmer environment in which to visit the Hiroshige: artist of the open road exhibition.\nThe first exhibition on Hiroshige to be held at the British Museum\, and the first on the artist in London for more than a quarter of a century\, this is a visually stunning portrait of a country about to change forever. \nFrom fashionable figures and energetic city views to remote landscapes and impressions of the natural world\, Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) captured many aspects of life in the Japan of his time. Stunning bird-and-flower prints reveal his poetic feeling for nature while his evocative landscapes reflected the growing interest in travel across Japan. Hiroshige portrayed his world sometimes as it was\, but often the way he imagined it could be. \nThe exhibition features prints\, drawings\, illustrated books and paintings from the British Museum collection\, as well as a significant gift and loan of prints from Alan Medaugh\, a major US collector of Hiroshige’s work\, and other important loans. As well as exploring Hiroshige’s incredible body of work\, this show considers his global legacy\, which spans from Japan’s Edo period (1615–1868) through to Vincent van Gogh and contemporary artists such as Julian Opie. \nThis event is part of the public programme supporting Hiroshige: artist of the open road (1 May – 7 September 2025). \nBooking information\n\nBook now(Opens in new window) to reserve your place.\nPlease meet at the Montague Place entrance at 6.30pm.
