- Wednesday 27 May 2026, 08:30-10:00

Explore the Museum during May half term at a quieter time, free from the general public and with many of the gallery sounds turned off.
This session is designed especially for families with children with special educational needs, neurodivergent and disabled children. There will be a sensory space, a quiet space and sensory bags available throughout the morning.
Celebrate Caribbean history and culture as we mark 70 years since London Transport began recruiting employees in the Caribbean. In 1956, London Transport launched a recruitment campaign in the Caribbean, inviting people to work on buses, stations, canteens and track maintenance. Their contribution shaped the city we know today.

Meet Donald

In the 1950s and 1960s, many people travelled from places like Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad to the United Kingdom – and many stayed in London! They found important jobs in hospitals, factories and also in London Transport (what we know today as Transport for London).
Donald Hinds was originally from Jamaica and moved to London, where he worked as a bus conductor.
What did a bus conductor do?
- Sold tickets in the bus
- Helped passengers get on and off
- Helped with directions
- Kept everyone safe
Fun fact
In the 1960s, bus conductors helped Londoners get around long before modern Oyster cards and contactless payment existed!
